OBTAINING YOUR PRACTICUM CREDIT IN SEVEN EASY STEPS
- Register for the credit hours (either GERON 5990 or GERON 6990).
- Consult the practicum notebook located in the Gerontology Main Office (591 Nursing) for information pertaining to available sites if you are still undecided about where to do your practicum or link to Practicum sites at this web site.
- Make appointment with potential preceptor to discuss nature
of the practicum, hours, responsibilities etc.
Review Practicum Sites - Complete goals and objectives statement with preceptor and forward to the Practicum Coordinator for signature. This is then placed in your file.
- Perform duties of practicum and report hours in a timely fashion to be placed in your file. There is a form available for this, or a memo from the preceptor is also an appropriate way to have your hours reported.
- As you near completion of the required hours (about a week or two left in the practicum) give a Practicum Evaluation form to your preceptor to be completed and returned to the Practicum Coordinator. A grade cannot be assigned until this form is returned and all the required hours are logged.
- Your practicum requirement is now completed!
REMEMBER, THE ONUS IS ON YOU, THE STUDENT, TO MAKE SURE THAT ALL THE PAPER WORK ASSOCIATED WITH YOUR PRACTICUM IS COMPLETED AND FILED IN THE OFFICE. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY THAT YOUR CREDIT CAN BE REPORTED IN A TIMELY FASHION!!!
