Utah Commission on Aging

In 2005, the legislature created the Commission within the Governor's office to address how state government and the private sector can prepare for the wave of aging individuals that begins in 2006 when the oldest baby boomers turn 60. Governor Jon M. Huntsman, Jr., appointed the 21 Commission members, honorary chair, and executive director in August 2005. MORE INFORMATION CAN BE FOUND IN THE LEFT MENU.

The Utah Commission on Aging is working to:

• Increase understanding of needs of Utah's aging population and how needs may best be met
• Study and report on the projected impact of the aging population on society and state government
• Identify and recommend specific policies, procedures, and programs to respond to the needs and impact of the aging population
• Facilitate coordination of the functions of public and private entities concerned with the aging population

 

The Commission is now housed at the University of Utah Center on Aging, and is working with other departments, including Health, Workforce Services, and Transportation, as well as the private-for-profit and private-non-profit sectors, to assure that all aspects of aging individuals' lives are considered.

Commission members have the statutory authority to direct the Commission. Special Committees and Work Groups comprised of policymakers, private sector experts, and Commission members are working to address specific topics.
